Behind the Sketch: The Heart and Soul of My Personalised Moment Sketches

Some moments slip by in an instant, but their impact stays with us. One of those moments changed the way I create art.

When my daughter was one and a half, she was always by my side—I couldn’t take a single step without her. Then, one summer at camp with her dad, something unexpected happened. On the very first day, she met an older girl. They didn’t really talk—my daughter was too young for that—but there was a quiet connection. The girl placed her hand on my daughter’s back and led her to the sandpit. And just like that, she followed—completely forgetting about me for the first time.

It was such a simple moment, but to me, it was profound. I grabbed my phone, snapped a quick photo, and held onto that feeling—tenderness, growth, trust. Later at home, I took out my markers and sketched the scene. The result was unpolished, naive, completely different from anything I had created before. But I loved it—not for its technique, but for the way it brought back the feeling of that moment.

That was when I knew—I wanted to keep moments like this artistically. Not through perfect paintings, but through sketches that captured their essence. With my second sketch, I simplified it even more. I stripped away the unnecessary details, using simple lines and soft colour transitions. The minimalism made the emotion even stronger.

That moment was a turning point. What began as a simple sketch became the foundation of my style today: a modern evolution of Impressionism—minimalist, expressive, and focused on the essence of a moment. Like the Impressionists, I don’t focus on fine details but on capturing fleeting, meaningful moments. My sketches take time—I carefully draw with pencil before coloring the lines—but the goal remains the same: to preserve not just what I see, but what I feel.

Now, I focus on those seemingly ordinary moments—the quiet, precious ones that might otherwise be forgotten—and capture them in a way that’s simple yet meaningful.

Why I Sketch Moments

My mission is to capture the beauty of everyday life through soulful sketches. I want to create art that reflects the warmth of connection, the quiet magic in daily life, and the emotions that make a moment unforgettable.

In a world where we take countless photos, I believe in a different way of preserving memories. Instead of focusing on likeness, I focus on feeling. The gentle touch of a child’s hand, a shared glance, the laughter between loved ones—these are the things that stay with us. My sketches aim to bring those emotions to life in a way that a photograph sometimes cannot.

A Vision Rooted in Connection

Art, to me, is about more than just creating something beautiful—it’s about bringing people closer together. My vision is to unite people through art by capturing the emotions and connections that make us human. I hope my sketches inspire others to appreciate the little things, to pause, and to truly see the beauty in their everyday lives.

This perspective also shapes the way I create. Every sketch begins with intuition—I allow the lines and colours to guide me, blending them in a way that reflects the feeling of the moment. My values of authenticity, gratitude, and joy are at the heart of this process. I don’t strive for perfection; I strive to capture the essence of a moment.

More Than Just Art—A Way of Seeing the World

The first quick sketch of my daughter and her new friend was more than a drawing—it was the beginning of a new way of seeing the world. Since then, I have sketched countless moments, each one a reminder that life’s most meaningful experiences are often the simplest ones.

Through my art, I hope to share this perspective with others. Because when we stop to truly look, we realise that the ordinary is extraordinary.
