The Process Behind My Custom Illustrations
Hello! I’m excited to share the process behind my custom illustrations. My goal is to transform your meaningful moments into colourful artwork. Here’s a detailed look at how I create your personalised sketches, blending traditional techniques with vibrant colours to capture the essence of your special memories.
Step 1: Foundation of Your Custom Sketch
The process begins with the photo you provide. Whether it’s a snapshot of a moment or a photo of a meaningful event, I start by sketching the image with pencil. This step is all about capturing the mood and essence of the scene, rather than precise details. The pencil sketch forms the base for the artwork, setting it up for the vibrant colours to come.
Step 2: Adding Vibrancy with Watercolours
Once the pencil sketch is complete, I move on to adding colour. I carefully erase parts of the pencil lines before painting over the sketch with vibrant watercolours from Winsor & Newton. The colours I use are chosen to express the mood and emotions of the moment. When adding colour to the sketch I work highly intuitively. Furthermore I use a blending technique to combine different colours. What makes my style unique is that I mainly paint the lines instead of colouring the fields. One line can have several colours blending into each other. This blending process brings depth and life to the artwork, making it come alive with rich, expressive hues.
Step 3: Creating a High-Quality Digital Version
After finishing the illustration, I create a high-quality digital file. To ensure the digital version captures the essence of the original artwork, I use a scanner. The file is high-resolution (around 17-18 MB), but the quality of the scanner may vary. This means the digital image might not fully capture the texture and exact colour nuances of the original sketch. I strive to maintain the artwork’s integrity and vibrancy, but some differences in feel and colour may occur.

By interpreting the scene more freely, I create artwork that reflects the atmosphere and emotions of the memory. This approach makes the illustration a more personal and meaningful representation of your precious moment.
